Ronan Keating gig is 'huge boost for Colchester'

Pop star Ronan Keating's world tour performing in Colchester will be a "huge boost" for the city, a councillor said.

The former Boyzone frontman will take to the stage in Lower Castle Park on 21 August 2027.

He will be joined by boy band Blue at the Colchester Castle Summer Series event.

"These are artists with generations of fans, and it's fantastic to see our city attracting acts of this calibre," said Darius Laws, a Conservative city councillor.

He described Keating's show as "another huge boost for Colchester", which hosted performances by Bastille, Simply Red and Becky Hill in August.

Other recent high-profile acts have included Fatboy Slim, Sir Tom Jones and Craig David.

"Announcements like these show why [our] reputation continues to grow," added Laws, the councillor responsible for culture, heritage and environment.

Keating's tour has been planned to celebrate his 30-year career, in which he has sold more than 45 million records globally.

"I've been incredibly lucky to have spent more than three decades doing what I love," he said.

"I've travelled the world, made records I'm enormously proud of and, most importantly, had audiences singing those songs back to me night after night."
