Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a field in West Sussex.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said at about 15:45 BST on Saturday that it was dealing with the incident close to West Chiltington Lane, near Coneyhurst.

Local residents were advised to avoid the area before firefighters said at about 18:15 that the response was "being scaled down" and crews were preparing to leave.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Emergency services have repeatedly issued warnings about the outdoor fire risk in recent months, following the hottest summer on record and a long spell with minimal rainfall.
