Teen admits stabbing man in golf course attack
BBCA 17-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to attempted murder after he stabbed a man several times at a golf course in Staffordshire.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, attacked the victim on a public footpath through the Stafford Castle venue on 14 May.
The man, in his 60s, suffered critical injuries and had a series of operations in hospital before he was discharged, Staffordshire Police said.
The boy pleaded guilty to the attempted murder charge at Stafford Crown Court on Friday.
He also admitted possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place and theft from a shop.
Police said the teenager fled before officers and paramedics arrived at the scene but he was identified via CCTV and public appeals and was arrested in Stafford on 19 May.
The victim continues to recover from the physical and emotional impact of the attack after being discharged from hospital, the force added.
Det Ch Insp Ian Fitzgerald said: "This was a shocking and violent attack that left the victim with life-threatening injuries and has had a significant impact on him, his loved ones and the wider community."
The teenager is due to be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on 20 November.
