Work on a multimillion-pound transport hub in Hereford is about 75% complete and on track to open at the end of October, Herefordshire Council has confirmed.

The £10m scheme at the city's railway station will link heritage attractions with public transport and provide pedestrian and cycling areas.

The council said the central hub structure was now fully in place, with internal works including electrical wiring, fixtures and fittings under way.

Councillor Philip Price said the hub would improve connections between public transport and active travel and support local business.

"We are making good progress on the new transport hub and it is exciting to see it taking shape," he said.

"With around three quarters of the work now complete, people can clearly see the scale and quality of what is being delivered."

The hub has been funded through Levelling Up cash from the government, alongside £3.5m from Herefordshire Council and £1m from active travel funds.

When complete, it will also include an enclosed waiting area, covered cycle parking, bus facilities, pedestrian areas, green space and a new cafe.

Access roads and the bus parking area had been surfaced with work continuing on the pavements, a council spokesperson said.

The bus area was expected to be ready for rail replacement services during July, they added.
