Man charged with GBH in connection with man's death
South Yorkshire PoliceA man has been charged in connection with an investigation into the death of a man in Barnsley.
Russell Baxter, 41, was found injured at a property on Wingfield Road on 3 September and died at the scene. A post-mortem examination into his death had proved "inconclusive", according to South Yorkshire Police.
Philip Benson, 57, of Wingfield Road, Athersley South, had been charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and with perverting the course of justice in connection with Baxter's death, a force spokesperson said.
Benson appeared before Doncaster Magistrates' Court on Friday and was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on 9 October.
A person arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the 41-year-old's death remained under investigation and had been remanded in custody on other charges, the spokesperson added.
