Tributes paid to pedestrian killed in HGV crash

Tributes have been paid to a man with "an amazing zest for life" after he died in a crash with an HGV.

Ashok Suri was walking along Lake Road in Ambleside, Cumbria, when the crash happened on 29 July, Cumbria Police said.

The 77-year-old's family said he was a "deep thinker" who "lived life on his own terms".

"There was always a spring in his step and love in his heart," adding he strived for excellence and encouraged his loved ones to be their "best and most fulfilled selves".

"He had a rare ability to look beyond appearances," they said.

"He brought intelligence, insight and humour to every conversation, and he will always be remembered for his perceptiveness, his wit and his uncompromising honesty."

Cumbria police said the crash happened at about 16:40 and, despite an air ambulance being called, the victim died at the scene.
