Jersey lawyer Victoria Bell has been announced as the island's next Solicitor General.

The former Jersey College for Girls and Exeter University student has been appointed by The King and will advise the government on legal matters.

She will take over from the previous post holder Matthew Jowitt who was appointed as Attorney General earlier this year.

Advocate Bell has worked for the law officers department since 2009 and said she feels "deeply honoured" by the appointment which the Bailiff announced in the States Assembly.

She added: "I look forward very much to maintaining the excellent standards set by my predecessor Matthew Jowitt KC and working with him and all of my highly talented and accomplished colleagues at the Law Officers' Department."

Bell was admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales in 2009 and became as an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey in 2016.

She has worked at the Law Officers' Department since 2009 and was made Senior Legal Adviser in 2024.
