Time to sing again the week has flown by. Although it is cold and frosty outside I am keen to get to the rehearsal. This week we start off with some stretching exercises, arms above your head and stretch left and then right wish Id brought a leotard. We progress to singing scales with a deliberate nasal intonation to help project sound. We do this in an exaggerated way and I am amazed when I hear the booming voices around me. I enjoy singing 'Phantom', but find some of the notes very low. Gary gives us an idea of how to interpret the lyrics and our nice jolly singing becomes filled with foreboding. For a group of Geordies, we all sing with very posh accents |
Next is a song from Les Miserables. The song is very quick and I feel at bit tongue-tied in parts, but we build it up slowly and soon we are all singing at full speed. For a group of Geordies we all sing with very posh accents, and we find it difficult when asked to sing in a rough accent (we are, after all, supposed to be French peasants). So for the moment we are posh French peasants. I'm sure my neighbours will be driven mad |
The rehearsal CDs are handed out in the interval and when I get home I listen to all songs in our repertoire. Some songs I recognise, some are new to me. I am sure my neighbours will be driven mad by my constant playing of the songs. Over the holidays I plan to rehearse in my car, my house, and perhaps even the bath now that I have my CD to sing along to. Tonights rehearsal goes very well and everyone is friendly. Someone has had the great idea to extend the rehearsals to the pub next door - I will certainly be joining that group in the New Year. See you all on the 9th January Merry Christmas! |
