I was in the school choir until I was about 12, but singing solo in front of an audience is something I haven't done since I was forced into it at primary school. In recent years, the closest I've got to 'performing' for an audience has been in a Karaoke bars on Greek islands - and I've only done that after a few cocktails and with the back up of a few friends! I can't even admit to being a diva in the shower. No chance - people outside the window might hear my warbling! So, an empty house with the doors and windows closed is the only place I've sung for a while. Going for it The experience wasn't high up there on my list of most enjoyable moments, but when I'd finished I was proud of myself for having had the guts to do it |
But I'm getting to that grand old age now (23!) when I've realised that, if I want to get anywhere, I've got to do something about it, so I joined Sing Live and it's been great. But singing solo? If I did that everyone would realise I can't hold a note and I'll get thrown out! However, after a few group rehearsals I'd picked up a bit of confidence and I thought I might as well give the auditions a go. As the saying goes, 'nothing ventured ...' Reality bites Scared? Me? As if! My hands and legs were shaking because it was cold. And that shaky vibrating voice? That's a sound effect I've been perfecting for years! Honest. I might not be the next Ella Fitzgerald or Kylie Minogue, but I'll still play a part in a great choir |
The experience wasn't high up there on my list of most enjoyable moments, but when I'd finished I was proud of myself for having had the guts to do it. Even if I do get shown the door at least I can say a had a go and faced my fears. I might not be the next Ella Fitzgerald or Kylie Minogue, but I'll still play a part in a great choir, doing 'extraordinary things in exciting places'! |
