Markets rise as investors react to positive earnings reports
US shares are on the rise this Wednesday after President Trump extended a ceasefire with Iran indefinitely, amid a stalemate over a second round of talks which still have to take place. Energy prices, though, are also on the rise again, as Iran attacks shipping and claims to have seized two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, putting a reopening of the vital waterway seemingly even further away.
The international benchmark Brent crude is trading close to 100 dollars a barrel, after falling sharply in the wake of the ceasefire extension last night. That's helping boost shares of US oil producers. Maria Llerena at Domini Impact Investments explains market participants have pivoted to other sources of data, such as inflation, labour, and mortgage data, as well as earnings reports, to make their investment decisions.
