Man transferred to helicopter after sea rescue near Alderney

A large mid-sea rescue operation took place after a man on a yacht sustained "significant injuries".

Guernsey Coastguard received a mayday call at about 11:50 BST on Friday from the vessel, which was about 25 miles (40km) west of Alderney.

The coastguard said it was told a man on board the boat had fallen and "may have been suffering from a more serious underlying medical condition".

Alderney's all-weather lifeboat and a French rescue helicopter were involved in getting the man to Guernsey for hospital treatment. Another vessel which was near the yacht also helped, a coastguard spokesperson added.
