Guernsey's Chalmers aims for Commonwealth medal

Guernsey's Alastair Chalmers is through to the final of the 400m hurdles at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The British champion, 26, won his heat in a time of 48.92 seconds to qualify fourth-fastest for Friday night's final.

Chalmers won bronze four years ago in Birmingham, becoming the first-ever person from Guernsey to win an athletics medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Should the Olympic semi-finalist make the podium he would be the first Guernsey sportsperson to win medals in consecutive Commonwealth Games since shooter Adrian Breton won medals at three Games between 1986 and 1994.

"It was a great field out there, a world-class field, so I knew I had to push it," Chalmers told BBC Guernsey.
