Man calls 999 after buying alcohol-free gin by mistake

A man called 999 to ask police for help in getting a £6 refund from Tesco for non-alcoholic gin he bought in error.

Hertfordshire Police shared audio of the call to remind the public to only dial 999 in an emergency.

They said almost a third of the calls they received each day on the emergency line were not appropriate.

The force added that "while this video might raise a few laughs, every unnecessary 999 call takes a call handler away from someone who could be facing a genuine emergency, possibly even life or death."

Call handlers have also received calls asking about taxi services, what time it was and someone reporting that their microwave timer was broken.
