Watch fire crews arrive at New Forest heath fire
This is the scene that greeted firefighters as they arrived at the heath fire on the A31 in the New Forest on Sunday evening.
The fire began in a van before spreading to nearby heathland.
Fire engine cab footage from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service shows the traffic tailing back while large plumes of smoke billowed up from the heath.
More than 20 vehicles had to be abandoned by motorists on the main road, with one woman telling BBC Radio Solent she feared her family's car might go up in flames.
