Why are Ethiopia's rebels joining forces?

Seven rebel groups from across Ethiopia have announced a new alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government.

Some were once rivals, others fought separately, but they now say they're united by a common goal.

So, who are they, and why have they joined forces now, just as fighting has flared once more in the northern Tigray region?
