Oxford City Council proposes changes to 25-year-old park by-laws

Changes could be made to by-laws that manage Oxford's parks and open spaces.

The city's council has launched a public consultation into the proposed changes.

They include revoking rules banning ball games, amending a blanket ban on cycling in certain parks, and creating new laws to deal with e-scooters.

Oxford City Council has not amended its parks and open spaces by-laws for more than 25 years.

The changes would affect the city's 130 parks and open spaces.

Councillor Chewe Munkonge, cabinet member for leisure and parks, said: "The proposed changes are a long-overdue positive step towards creating a more accessible, pragmatic and sensible framework for users, to ensure a cleaner, safer environment within our city's green spaces."

A consultation is scheduled to run until 8 April.
