Shaun Davies will take on his new role at a turbulent time for Labour

Telford MP Shaun Davies has been appointed as an assistant whip in the House of Commons following a series of ministerial resignations which have intensified pressure on Sir Keir Starmer.

The former Labour leader of Telford & Wrekin Council was among three new whips announced yesterday, with four new ministers also appointed.

Davies, who was elected as MP for Telford at the 2024 general election, will be responsible for party discipline and helping to organise parliamentary business in the Commons.

Labour descended into open division on Tuesday as at least four ministers resigned and more than 80 MPs called on the prime minister to step down.

More than 100 other MPs are understood to have backed Starmer.
