A large fire broke out in an Essex town, damaging a house, cars and trees

A large fire has left a house and cars destroyed.

It happened in Laindon, Essex, at about 16:40 BST on Thursday.

Crews from Billericay, Basildon, Rayleigh, Brentwood and Leigh-on-Sea attended, and prevented the flames from spreading further.

People inside the building managed to escape before crews arrived, Essex fire service said. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is due to take place.
