Man charged over fatal crash with cyclists

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a car hit three cyclists, killing two and injuring another.

Kent Police said it had charged Aaron Turner, 22, from Hermitage Road in Higham, after the fatal crash near Gravesend on Sunday.

A man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s died in the crash while the third cyclist was treated in hospital for minor injuries, a police spokesperson said.

A white Ford Focus was travelling south-west near the village of Sole Street at about 07:45 BST when it was involved in the crash, according to police.

In addition to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, Turner has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a crash and possession of a class C drug.

He is due to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court later.

A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 19-year-old woman who was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the car or cyclists before the incident, or who witnessed the crash near the junction of Sole Street and Round Street, to contact them.

They also appealed for members of the public with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.
