More than 2,000 homes were left without power overnight after a large fire at an industrial estate.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent crews to the site on Wallage Lane in Rowfant at around 22:00 BST on Saturday.

UK Power Networks said "engineers had to unexpectedly turn off the power to 2,190 customers" in an area east of Crawley in order to isolate an overhead cable "for safety" .

Power was restored to all the homes by 09:00 on Sunday, the company said.

A total of eight fire engines and water carriers attended at the height of the blaze.

There were no reports of casualties.

Residents living nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed.
