Tributes to 'true lady' hairdresser killed in crash

A retired hairdresser who died in hospital after a car crash has been described as a "true lady" in a tribute from her family.

Gillian Dixon, 76, was a passenger in a Fiat Punto involved in a crash with a dark-coloured Toyota Land Cruiser on the A3057 near Goodworth Clatford, Hampshire, shortly after 17:45 BST on 29 August.

Her family, who said she was known as Gilly and lived in Houghton, described her as "the kindest, most caring and gentle person" who "put everyone before herself and worried about everyone, even those she barely knew".

The Fiat driver, an 80-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hampshire Police said he remained in a stable condition.

In a tribute released through police, her family added: "Born and bred in Hampshire, she loved the countryside, living in Winchester, Stockbridge and Houghton.

"A hairdresser all her life and in retirement enjoying days out with her beloved husband Clive, together for 61 years and married for 56.

"She enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by her family, tending her garden with her dogs and chickens around her feet or having a good chat over a coffee with friends, she was a true lady.

"She will be truly missed and many have shared that Stockbridge won't be the same without Gilly."

Police said inquiries were ongoing "to establish the full circumstances of the collision" and urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to get in touch.
