Man admits punching former boxing world champion
Athena PicturesA man has admitted punching former boxing world champion Joe Cordina outside a Cardiff petrol station.
Jamie O'Brien, 33, from Pentwyn spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address at Cardiff Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to assaulting Cordina by beating.
It happened at a Texaco garage in Pentwyn in February.
O'Brien was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 court costs and pay a mandatory surcharge of £26.
Judge Murphy heard O'Brien was suffering a "mental health crisis" at the time and was soon after detained under the Mental Health Act.
Cordina denies two charges of assault by beating O'Brien and is due to stand trial at Cardiff Magistrates' Court in October.
