Homes evacuated and man arrested over suspect device

Residents have been forced to leave their homes and a man has been arrested after a suspected explosive device was found.

Dorset Police said the device was discovered by officers making arrest inquiries at an address on Suffolk Avenue, Christchurch, shortly after 09:30 BST.

The force said an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team had been called and a cordon was in place "as a precaution" with a number of nearby homes evacuated and the road closed.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remains in police custody.
