More voters in 2026 election despite turnout drop
BBCThere were 2,427 more voters in Jersey's 2026 election compared to 2022 - despite the overall turnout being lower.
Figures from Vote.je showed the introduction of automatic voter registration in March led to the number of people on the island's electoral register increased from 60,701 to 85,470. Of this, 27,691 people voted on Sunday - a turnout of 32.4%.
Vote.je said the number of people who voted was a rise of 9% from the previous election four years ago, when 25,264 people cast ballots.
It added while the overall turnout fell by 9.2%, it was "difficult to make a like-for-like comparison" as the number of registered voters had increased by 41%.
Vote.je's figures also showed there was a total of 580 invalid ballots cast during the election.
It added there were 1,581 postal votes and 2,791 pre-poll ballots.
