Churchill Community College in Wallsend has been closed due to a lightning strike

A school has been forced to closed after the building was struck by lightning.

Churchill Community College in Wallsend, North Tyneside, was hit during an early morning storm before pupils arrived.

No damage was caused to the building but the strike affected its electric systems, a spokesperson for the college said.

They said no-one was injured by the strike and the college would reopen on Monday.
