New police station opens in Milton
Cambridgeshire PoliceA new police station near Cambridge has opened, replacing a city-centre station built in the 1960s.
Cambridgeshire Police said its officers and staff had moved from Parkside Police Station into new premises in Milton, next to the park and ride.
The two-storey station includes a 24-cell custody suite, consultation and interview rooms, medical facilities and secure detainee holding areas.
Chief Constable Chris Balmer called the opening of the station a "significant moment" for the force and the community.
He said: "This modern, purpose-built facility gives our officers and staff the environment, tools and capacity they need to meet rising demand, respond more efficiently, and provide a high-quality service to the public for many years to come."
Cambridgeshire PoliceThe force said the new building in Milton had been equipped with air source heat pumps, solar panels and electric chargers.
Darryl Preston, the Conservative police and crime commissioner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, added that the facility "offers a more modern working environment for police officers and staff".
He added that its location would enable the force "to meet the demands of our growing population, particularly in the south of the county".
Construction of the new station started in 2024 at an estimated cost of £45m, after the force described the Parkside site in Cambridge as "beyond its functional age".
