A stretch of road in West Sussex is to be closed for approximately 10 days to allow broadband works to be carried out.

The A280 Long Furlong in Clapham, near Worthing, is to shut from Monday so that CityFibre can upgrade the area's digital infrastructure as part of the government's Project Gigabit programme.

The programme is designed to enable hard to reach communities access gigabit-capable broadband.

CityFibre is trialling a new technology designed to improve communication with drivers and divert them more evenly across alternative routes.

Adrian Smith, partnership manager for CityFibre, said: "Improved communications with drivers will help us to deliver these essential works quickly and safely whilst also ensuring that drivers and residents are impacted as little as possible.

"It's a win-win."
