Cosham station was evacuated after smoke from the fire drifted on to the tracks

Trains were cancelled and a railway station evacuated after a fire broke out in a nearby flat.

Crews were called to the property above a kebab shop in Portsmouth Road, Cosham, Hampshire, at 15:20 BST, where smoke was affecting the railway line.

The railway line and station were closed while firefighters tackled the blaze and trains did not call at the station.

The line was reopened by 19:13 but South Western Railway said trains may still be delayed or revised as the service recovers.

Crews from seven stations were called to the blaze.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said all people had been accounted for and crews worked swiftly to surround the fire and prevent it from escalating further.
