Man charged with murder after woman found dead

A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead at a property in Worthing.

Officers were called to an address in Durrington Lane at 19:50 BST on Thursday, following concerns for the welfare of a woman, said Sussex Police.

A 65-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, said the force.

Alexandru Nechifor, 37, from Worthing, was charged on Friday with murder and two counts of assaulting a police constable in the execution of his or her duty. He remains in police custody and will appear before magistrates in the town on Monday.

Police said the man and woman were known to each other.

Det Insp Amanda Zinyama said police believe it to be an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
