Police believe the man was on Crewe Road in Sandbach on Saturday evening

An investigation is under way to discover how a man came to be found in a street with serious injuries.

Cheshire Police said the 46-year-old was taken to hospital after being discovered on Oldfield Road in Sandbach on Sunday.

The force said it believed he had been seen the night before at the Cheshire Cheese and Barchetta establishments on Crewe Road in the town.

Ch Insp Hannah Friend said: "At this stage this appears to be an isolated incident, and we are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of how this man came to sustain such serious injuries."

The force asked for people living on Oldfield Road or Crewe Road to check their CCTV and doorbell cameras for footage which may help with inquiries.

It also asked taxi drivers, bus drivers or drivers of vehicles with dashcams to check their footage if they were in this area during the time.
