Workington town centre is having a revamp

Road are being shut as a project aimed at creating a more vibrant and pedestrian-friendly town centre nears completion.

The work, which centres on Workington's Murray Road and Central Way, is part of a larger £33m regeneration scheme and includes new landscaping and seating.

Cumberland Council said that part is drawing to a close, but raised crossing and surfacing works still needed to be done.

To support this, a temporary road closure will be in place from the entrance to the multi-storey car park on Central Way between 19:00 and 07:00 BST from Monday 6 July to Saturday 11 July.

Council leader Mark Fryer said: "These improvements are about creating a town centre that is safer, more attractive and better connected, one that will support businesses, bring more people into the town and benefit our communities for years to come.

"We know these works have not always been easy, and we sincerely thank residents, businesses and visitors for bearing with us throughout.

"Your patience has made it possible to deliver something that will make a real difference to Workington's future."
