Man's death no longer seen as suspicious

The death of a man in Reading is no longer being investigated as a murder, police have said.

Thames Valley Police officers were called at 07:20 BST on Wednesday to an address on Wensley Road in Reading due to fears for the welfare of a man.

Officers found the body of a man in his 70s inside. A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Following a post mortem examination the incident is no longer being treated as suspicious. The man has been released from police custody and no further action will be taken against him, police said.

A force spokesperson said an investigation was launched "in order to determine the circumstances of the man's death" and the 60-year-old was arrested based on the information available at the time.

"Following the results of this and a number of lines of enquiry which we have been carrying out over the past two days, we are no longer treating this incident as suspicious," the spokesperson added.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Police are still trying to piece together the man's movements before he died.

The force is appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dash camera footage taken in the Wensley Road area between 14:30 on 11 August and 08:00 BST on 12 August, to come forward.

"Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has sadly died," police said.
