Warnings of delays overnight at major junction
Middlesbrough CouncilDrivers are being warned of disruption at a major junction as a project to upgrade it moves to the next phase.
Repairs and improvements are being made to the A172 Marton Road/A174 Interchange in Middlesbrough, to extend the life of the bridge.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight on 1 and 2 June as work moves to the northbound carriageway, though access will be maintained.
Middlesbrough Council said cameras were in place and any footage of drivers carrying out unsafe or prohibited movements because of delays could be shared with Cleveland Police.
Middlesbrough CouncilWork includes repairing concrete beneath the bridge, replacing waterproofing, installing new kerbs and footways, resurfacing and the addition of new pedestrian fencing and vehicle safety barriers.
With the first phase of the work nearly complete, the second stage - refurbishment of the northbound carriageway and footpath towards Middlesbrough - was about to start.
This means all traffic will be moved on to the southbound carriageway with pedestrian access diverted to the east side of the bridge.
The work is expected to be completed by October.
A Middlesbrough Council spokesperson said: "This important and complex project is progressing well and remains on schedule.
"From the outset our focus has been on keeping disruption to a minimum and we're grateful to the public for their patience and understanding."
