Passengers travelling between Wolverhampton and Stafford faced disruption on Wednesday

Rail lines have reopened after damage to overhead electric wires caused major disruption for passengers.

Services between Wolverhampton and Stafford were affected by the incident from about 17:00 BST on Wednesday, National Rail said.

Lines have since reopened but trains running between the two stations may still be cancelled, revised or diverted, with disruption expected until about 23:30 BST.

Tickets could be used on alternative services with some rail replacement buses in place between the two stations, a spokesperson added.

Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and London Northwestern Railway routes were the services affected, with passengers advised to check their journeys before travelling.
