Arson arrest after fire at town hall
Loughborough Town HallA man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at Loughborough Town Hall.
Leicestershire Police said it received a report at 19:30 BST on Wednesday that a fire had been started in the toilets of the building.
The force said it attended alongside Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, which confirmed there were no casualties.
Police said a 27-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and he remained in custody.
In a statement, Loughborough Town Hall said the building was evacuated as the evening show "That'll Be The Day" was about to begin.
It said the town hall would be closed on Thursday and that it was assessing the damage caused by the fire.
A spokesperson for the town hall added: "The next scheduled show is tomorrow night 'Vampires Rock: Eternal Love – The Musical'.
"We will confirm as soon as possible if it can go ahead and will also provide further updates on the reopening of the building."
