Premier League star Merlin Röhl has released a collection of pictures documenting behind-the-scenes moments during his time playing for Everton - two years after discovering a love for photography.

Called Behind the Lens: Life with Everton, the album captures the people, places and dramas that have shaped the German's introduction to life with the Toffees.

Asked what his favourite element of photography was, the 24-year-old said: "I think memories. I can hold on to something that normally just goes away.

"Sometimes it's just me doing something that I enjoy.

"I just enjoy playing football so much and I can't do it the whole day, so I'm trying next to the football to search for some things where I can feel a little bit like when I am playing football."

Everton signed the Germany under-21 international from Bundesliga side Freiburg on a season-long loan in 2025 before signing him permanently over summer.

The 6ft 3in midfielder joined Freiburg from Ingolstadt in 2022 and made 60 appearances, playing in several roles in midfield as well as deputising at right-back.

The footballer said photography provided an outlet for him to relax away from the pitch.

"I had a tough training session in the morning and did all the work that I can do on the pitch and sometimes for me it's to relax, to just go out, walk a little bit and have some photos," he said.

Röhl's camera takes supporters inside Everton's Finch Farm training ground and the club's dressing room, through recovery sessions and quiet moments around training.

It also chronicles journeys with teammates and into the build-up to matchdays home and away.

Away from football, his photographs explore Liverpool through walks around the city's parks, beaches, and the streets and spaces that have helped make Merseyside feel increasingly like home to him.

Some the proceeds of the book will support the Everton Multi Academy Trust, which is supported directly by Everton Football Club and Everton in the Community.

While it took some of Röhl's teammates a little while to warm up to the camera, now they have become comfortable in front of the lens.

"I think in the beginning it was a little bit kind of a step we needed to overcome, but now everybody is just like completely fine," he said.

"I have a good relationship with all my teammates and that helps a lot to get some nice pictures."

However, a certain key member of staff is yet to pose for Röhl's - his manager David Moyes.

"Maybe I will ask in the future," he said.

"But maybe I'm a little bit scared to affect my starting position."
