Sheep takes unexpected boat trip after river rescue

A sheep took an unexpected boat trip when firefighters had to rescue it from a river.

The wayward woolly one got stuck in the River Great Ouse near Meadow Lane in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, at about 16:00 BST on Tuesday.

Crews from Huntingdon and Cambridge managed to get it safely on board a sled and bring it safely back to dry land.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Whilst these types of incidents can't always be avoided, we would like to urge those that have animals to please ensure fences and gates are secure, to reduce the chances of animals becoming stuck in places like rivers."

The service has urged people to not attempt to rescue any animal in water and instead call the fire service for help.
