Sleep-out for homeless charity returns to city

An event which sees fundraisers braving cold and often wet conditions to sleep outdoors in a football stadium is set to return to Wolverhampton.

The Molineux Sleepout will take place for its eighth year, with funds donated to the Wolves Foundation and Good Shepherd charities, to support homeless and vulnerable people across the city.

"We know a lot of people across the city are facing challenging times, but what is so special about our community is how people are willing to come together and step up to help each other," said Kieron Ansell, of Good Shepherd.

The fundraiser will be held in the Stan Cullis stand at the stadium on 13 November.

Last year, more than 250 people, including singer Beverley Knight, took part in the fundraiser despite heavy winds and rain from Storm Claudia.

Sisters Natasha and Neve Bowater, who plan to return to the sleep-out with father John, a director of Wolves, said taking part had become an important tradition for them.

"What's so powerful about the sleep-out is seeing the community come together, hearing inspirational stories, and holding on to that sense of hope," they said.

"That's what keeps us coming back."
