Latest security alert in street declared elaborate hoax
PA MediaA security alert in Omagh has ended and been declared an elaborate hoax.
The alert, which began after a suspicious object was discovered, was the third in the town's Culmore Park in the last eight months.
A number of people were forced to leave their homes after the alert began around 11:00 BST on Friday.
The object was removed and examined by Army experts before being declared a hoax.
All cordons have been lifted and residents have returned to their homes.
"We do not underestimate the upset, disruption and concern incidents like these can cause for local residents and the wider community," Det Insp Michael Winters said.
"We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by those affected while officers worked to ensure this public safety operation was carried out, and we thank residents for their understanding and patience.
"Public safety is our priority, and enquiries remain ongoing into the exact circumstances of what happened."
The previous alerts in the street were in September and February.
