A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on a motorway.

Devon and Cornwall Police said there were "long delays" in the area following the crash which involved a motorcycle and car between junctions 30 and 31 on the M5 in Exeter.

Police said officers were notified of the incident at about 08:15 BST and have asked people to "avoid the area".

National Highways said the M5 is closed on the northbound carriageway with three miles (4.8km) of congestion reported.
