Police are investigating two separate overnight arson attacks in Limavady, County Londonderry, and Coalisland, County Tyrone.

In the Limavady attack, one person was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after a deliberate fire at a block of flats in Glenview Drive.

Police said the blaze was reported at about 01:30 BST on Saturday after an object was thrown through the window of an unoccupied flat.

In Coalisland, two petrol bombs were thrown at a house in Pinebank Gardens, with the attack reported to police shortly after 03:30 BST.

"The occupant of the property managed to extinguish the fire, and thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries," said Det Insp Winters from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

However, the officer added that the Coalisland incident "was a reckless attack, and our enquiries are ongoing this morning to establish the circumstances".

Firefighters, police and ambulance staff attended both incidents.

In relation to the Limavady fire, Det Insp Ballentine said: "Enquiries are ongoing to determine a motive, who was involved, and the circumstances of what happened."

Police have appealed to anyone with information about either of the attacks to contact them.
