Headliners for revamped Godiva to be named

Headline acts for Godiva in the City are expected to be named and confirmed on Monday, with the two-day event due to start in less than a fortnight.

Coventry City Council confirmed in February that a slimmed down version would replace the traditional three-night Godiva Festival at the War Memorial Park as part of budget-saving measures, claiming the existing festival was no longer financially viable.

The new event is due to start on 4 July, with potential visitors still in the dark over who might be performing.

What is known is that it will be based at two locations in the city centre: Millennium Place outside the Transport Museum and the Gosford Street car park.

The Godiva festival was first held in 1997 as a free event, with the council charging for tickets in 2019, to help cover costs.

In February, they confirmed they were "pausing" the festival at the War Memorial Park amid rising costs and other challenges.

Sales of tickets had fallen, meaning the local authority had to spend more money than expected on covering the cost of booking acts, providing security and safety staff.

Instead, the local authority announced the free two-day event in the city centre, with local bands and performers coming to the fore.

But with 13 days to go until the gates open, the council has not announced which bands will be headlining the stages at either venue.

It is expected that the council, who organise the revamped festival, will name their main acts on Monday, along with ticketing details and when the gates will open to fans on both days.
