Closures on the A6 in May and June will enable maintenance work on the Irthlingborough viaduct

A major road will be shut in May and early June as part of work to repair a viaduct.

The A6 by the Irthlingborough viaduct in Northamptonshire will be closed from 20:00 BST on 8 May until 06:00 on 11 May, followed by an overnight closure on 12 May.

The first phase of the work aims to re-waterproof part of the structure and replace expansion joints.

North Northamptonshire Council said the works were "essential" to protect the long-term safety and "integrity" of the viaduct.

The second phase will start on 29 May and continue until 2 June, with contingency dates planned.

Diversions will be in place, and drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.

The full list of roadworks and diversions can be found on the council's website.
