Car crashes into new lights at accident hotspot
BBCTraffic lights installed as part of a £400,000 project to improve safety at an accident hotspot have been knocked down after less than a week.
Four-way traffic lights have been put up at Charley Crossroads, where Charley Road meets the B591 near Loughborough.
Leicestershire County Council said the work was carried out after local people voiced concerns that vehicles frequently failed to give way.
A spokesperson said the authority was "disappointed" to see "damage caused by a vehicle to a traffic light" so soon after work was completed.
Leicestershire Police said they were called to reports a car had hit one of the traffic lights before stopping in a bush, shortly before 21:30 BST on Tuesday.
No-one was injured in the crash, the force added.
Leicestershire County Council"We were disappointed to see damage caused by a vehicle to a traffic light at Charley Crossroads so soon after new safety measures were installed by the county council but are pleased to hear that nobody was injured as a result.
"Repairs to the damaged traffic light will be carried out soon," the council spokesperson said.
As part of the project, new signage and street lighting have been installed on all four approaching roads to help drivers at night.
