Four men have been arrested after a car was stopped by police amid fears it was going to be driven the wrong way down a motorway.

A pursuit began early on Friday after the driver of a Range Rover failed to stop when asked and prepared to enter a roundabout in the wrong direction, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

Officers feared the vehicle, believed to have been stolen in a burglary outside West Yorkshire, would be driven the wrong way down the M62 so made "tactical contact" to bring it to a halt at junction 25 near Brighouse at about 06:30 BST.

The vehicle's occupants made off onto the roundabout, but four men - two aged 18, one 19 and one 24, were later arrested, police said.

The men were held on suspicion of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving, the spokesperson added.

A dog unit and a drone were both deployed during the search, according to police.
