Man jailed for 10 years for child rape and sexual offences
BBCA man found guilty of the sexual abuse of two young girls including rape has been jailed for 10 years.
Jonathan Hopson, 45, was found guilty of five charges in the Elgin area of Moray at an earlier trial.
The offences against one victim took place between 2008 and 2010 and the other between 2015 and 2017.
At the High Court in Dundee, Hopson was given an extended 13-year sentence, meaning he will be supervised for three years after his custodial sentence.
Hopson was convicted after a five-day trial at the High Court in Inverness last month.
The offences also included lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour.
Sentencing on Wednesday, Judge Bain said: "The offences of which you were convicted represent a course of conduct systematically pursued by you, the most serious element of it being the rape of victim A."
She added: "I am satisfied that both victims have sustained psychological harm and trauma.
"There is no appropriate alternative to a custodial sentence."
Hopson was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Det Con Fiona Roberston, of Police Scotland, said: "Hopson is a manipulative and predatory individual and his despicable behaviour has caused significant harm.
"He will now face the consequences of his actions, and I hope this outcome provides some degree of closure to the girls he abused and their loved ones."
