A man has been charged over a lorry crash that left the A77 in Ayrshire blocked for hours by giant cable reels.

Police Scotland said officers were called to a "one vehicle crash" near Kilmarnock at around 13:30. There were no reported injuries.

Photos shared on social media showed traffic tailed back behind three giant metal reels - with one caught on the centre barrier near oncoming traffic.

The A77 and the B7073 London Road were closed at the junction between Wellpark Avenue and Billy Bowie Park until about 18:45.

Officers said the man had been charged with a road traffic offence.
