Captain Cook Hotel could become eight homes

Eight new homes could be built at the site of a former hotel in Guernsey's capital, St Peter Port.

A planning application to build five flats and three dwellings at the site of the Captain Cook Hotel has been submitted by Frontier Wealth Management Limited.

If approved by planners, a two-storey extension and a terrace on the second floor will also be created.

The Captain Cook Hotel is a protected building and anyone wishing to make representations on the application has 21 days from the date of the site notice going up.

Naftel Associates, which has submitted the plans, has asked the Development and Planning Authority to withdraw the protected status of the building.

The company argued much of the original building had already been altered and had deteriorated.

It added the building was currently in poor condition, with water damage and timber decay and bringing it up to modern hotel standards would be very expensive.

It argued the site would not be financially viable as a hotel and it had been marketed for sale, but there was little or no interest from potential hotel operators or buyers.
