Arrest after man 'threatens to kill' Thames rower

A man has been arrested after allegedly making threats to kill on the River Thames after his boat hit a rower.

Police said a white and blue boat was reportedly being steered dangerously near Maidenhead Rowing Club when the collision happened at about 07:15 BST on Sunday.

The suspect was also accused of verbally abusing a second rower who repeatedly tried to get away, police said.

A 67-year-old man from Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, threats to kill, a Public Order Act offence, common assault, and using a watercraft in a manner that endangered a structure or individual.

Det Insp Laura Al-Owaied said: "We are treating this investigation as a priority and there will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance to local residents and river users."
