Part of the busway will be closed for "urgent repairs", the council said

A section of Cambridge's guided busway will be closed for almost four days to allow for urgent repairs to be carried out.

Cambridgeshire County Council said the southern section, between Clay Farm and Trumpington Park and Ride, would be closed from 23:00 BST on Thursday until Monday afternoon, 12 October.

It said engineers identified a defect affecting a structural beam between Hauxton Road bridge and Shelford Road bridge and a temporary 10mph (16km/h) speed restriction was introduced,.

"But the condition has continued to deteriorate and specialist engineering advice is that the repair can no longer be delayed," it added.

The busway will remain open between the Biomedical Campus and Cambridge central railway station.

The council said during the work, Whippet bus services would operate as normal and were not directly affected, and Stagecoach services would continue to run via a road diversion around the closed section.
